Fire-Rated Fabric Needs Different Care

Nomex and PROBAN-treated fabrics lose effectiveness when washed with fabric softener or dried on high heat — the FR treatment is a fiber-level property, not a coating, but repeated harsh washing still accelerates wear.

Cordura and sublimated polyester blends (used in kart and rental fleet suits) are more wash-tolerant by comparison, which is part of why rental tracks specifically need Cordura-based fleet suits rather than Nomex for daily multi-user cycling.
